What problems is your lawn showing?

Your custom plan (15 steps)

  1. Month
    February
    Soil test & rake debris

Test pH, lift winter debris before mowing season

  2. Month
    March
    First high cut (40mm)

Wakes up the lawn without shocking it

  3. Month
    March
    Apply moss killer (chemical-free)

Lactic acid or sulphate of iron — kills moss before scarifying

  4. Month
    April
    Scarify

Rake out moss and thatch — lawn looks awful for 2 weeks then transforms

  5. Month
    April
    Hollow-tine aerate

Pulls plugs, opens up compacted soil — biggest single improvement possible

  6. Month
    April
Top-dress with compost or sandy loam

Levels the lawn, feeds the soil, fills aeration holes

  7. Month
    April
    Overseed bare patches

Spring overseed germinates fast in warming soil

  8. Month
    May
    Spring feed (high nitrogen)

Greens up the lawn and crowds out weeds

  9. Month
    June
    Drop mowing height to 25–30mm

Active growth phase — shorter cuts improve density

  10. Month
    July
    Raise mowing height to 35–40mm

Drought-resistance: longer blades shade soil and retain moisture

  11. Month
    August
Water deeply if dry (not daily)

One soaking per week beats daily sprinkles for root depth

  12. Month
    September
    Overseed thin areas

September overseed is the best window of the year — warm soil, cool air

  13. Month
    October
Autumn feed (low nitrogen, high potash)

Hardens the lawn for winter, no soft growth that gets diseased

  14. Month
    November
    Final cut at 30–35mm

Clean exit into winter — too short invites moss, too long mats down

  15. Month
    December
    Stay off frosted lawn

Walking on frozen blades crushes them — footprints stay for weeks

A note on chemicals

This plan is fully chemical-free — pet-safe, child-safe, wildlife-safe. We don't use synthetic herbicides or insecticides. Lactic acid moss treatment, nematodes for grubs, hand-weeding, scarifying, aerating, overseeding and good feed do everything weedkillers used to do — usually better.
