Got a roof draining onto a path or borders that flood? Size a soakaway, a rain garden, or attenuation crates — for typical Fife rainfall.
Half a typical 3-bed semi roof ≈ 35–50 m². Whole roof ≈ 70–100 m².
Most of inland Fife is loam over clay. Coastal zones (Tayport, Crail) are sandier.
10-year storm is the standard for residential SuDS in Scotland.
m³ of water in a 10-minute design storm
m² of planted depression at 200mm depth
m³ excavation, gravel-filled (30% void)
Standard 1m³ modular SuDS crates
Why this matters
From 2017 (Scotland) every new build needs SuDS for runoff. Retrofitting one for an existing house? Not a legal requirement, but it solves flooding patios, drowned borders, and pooling at foundations — and it stops your run-off being someone else's problem downstream.
Rain gardens are gorgeous. Sedges, irises, ferns, hostas, marsh marigolds — they thrive in the drying-out cycle of a planted depression. Best of both worlds.
We do percolation tests, install soakaways, build rain gardens and divert downpipes. Send a video of where the water goes in heavy rain.
